I’m delighted to partner with the National Mango Board to share fresh, colorful ways to enjoy mangos beyond the usual summer recipes. Mangos bring natural sweetness, bright flavor, and beautiful color to everyday meals, and they can be especially memorable during the holiday season. This Pistachio Crusted Mango Cheese Log is an easy, festive appetizer that adds something unexpected and delicious to any charcuterie board.

When the holidays are approaching, entertaining can feel like a lot to manage. One of the simplest ways to serve guests without spending the entire gathering in the kitchen is to create a generous charcuterie board. It looks impressive, offers a variety of flavors, and gives everyone the chance to choose what they like. With a little planning, a board filled with cheeses, fruit, crackers, nuts, spreads, and cured meats can become both an appetizer and a beautiful centerpiece.

The centerpiece of this holiday charcuterie board is a Pistachio Crusted Mango Cheese Log. It starts with creamy whipped goat cheese folded with finely diced fresh mango and pomegranate arils. Once the mixture is shaped and chilled, it is rolled in chopped pistachios and crispy sage for a savory, salty, buttery finish. The best part is that this appetizer can be made ahead of time, so it is ready to unwrap, plate, and serve when guests arrive.

The flavor combination is what makes this mango cheese log so special. Fresh mango adds juicy sweetness, goat cheese brings a tangy creaminess, pomegranate arils offer a burst of brightness, pistachios add crunch and saltiness, and fried sage gives the whole appetizer a warm, holiday-inspired flavor. It is simple to prepare, but it feels thoughtful and festive on the table.

Serve the Pistachio Crusted Mango Cheese Log with a balanced selection of cheeses, cured meats, crisp crackers, fresh fruit, nuts, and a favorite jam or spread. Mango is a lovely surprise on a holiday board because many people think of it only as a warm-weather fruit. In reality, mangos are available year-round, making them a great choice for fall and winter entertaining as well as summer meals.

For this charcuterie board, I used the Tommy Atkins mango variety. It is the most widely grown commercial variety imported into the United States and has a mildly sweet flavor that pairs beautifully with tangy goat cheese and salty pistachios. Dice the mango finely so it folds easily into the cheese and spreads well on crackers.

If you are building a holiday appetizer spread, this make-ahead mango cheese log is a practical and elegant choice. It is easy to slice, spread, and pair with other board ingredients. Allow the cheese log to sit at room temperature briefly before serving so the goat cheese softens and spreads smoothly. The result is a colorful, flavorful appetizer that feels right at home at Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s gatherings, or any cozy winter celebration.

Description
This Pistachio Crusted Mango Cheese Log is a festive holiday appetizer made with sweet fresh mango, tangy goat cheese, pomegranate arils, buttery sage, and salty pistachios. Serve it with crackers, fruit, cured meats, and other cheeses for a colorful charcuterie board.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 ounces goat cheese
- 1/4 cup diced fresh mango
- 1/4 cup pomegranate arils
- 1 cup chopped pistachios
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 10 fresh sage leaves, or 1 teaspoon dry sage leaves
Instructions
- Add the goat cheese to the bowl of an electric mixer fitted with the whisk attachment. Whip until the cheese is soft, creamy, and easy to spread. Add the finely diced mango and pomegranate arils, then fold them in gently so the fruit stays intact.
- Spoon the whipped goat cheese mixture onto a piece of plastic wrap. Shape it into a log, wrap it tightly, and twist the ends to secure. Chill until firm, about 3 to 4 hours or longer.
- Melt the butter in a small pan over medium-high heat. Add the sage leaves and fry for about 1 to 2 minutes per side, or until crisp. Remove the sage from the pan and drain it on a paper towel.
- Crumble the fried sage into small pieces and stir it into the chopped pistachios. Spread the pistachio mixture onto a clean work surface, then roll the chilled cheese log through the mixture until evenly coated on all sides. Wrap and chill until ready to serve. Let the cheese log come to room temperature before serving so it spreads easily.
